Alleviate “Stash Guilt” & Make Cards

Today we have Kerry Engel as our Guest Blogger, and she is sharing how she is using up her stash by making something new with something old!

I have a confession. I find card making stressful. I’m a scrapbooker. I marvel at the beautiful cards that card-makers create. The meticulous stamping, perfect embossing and amazing colouring… I have trouble thinking without a photograph and yet, I still make cards. Mostly to use up my stash because …I have stash-guilt.

I got on a card-roll earlier this summer when my daughter came downstairs and declared, “We are out of cards!” Buying cards just feels wrong when I can make them so I tend to go on a card-making-bender each summer.

This year, my card-making-bender was made simpler by the addition of the Core’dinations ColorCore Polka Dot Pop card package. I need to confess two things. I love Kraft coloured paper and polka dots. The fact that the polka dots are flocked put me over the top….texture therapy too! That was all the inspiration I needed for my next batch of cards.

So, after my initial spark (the new polka dot cards) and the call to action (from my daughter) I pulled out my stash of embellishments and made color centric piles of brads, buttons, die cuts and ribbon. Gotta admit some of these embellishments go way back.

I ended making 15 cards before I petered out. I try to leave them a bit generic so I can customize them as needed.

The flocking requires some heavy adhesives. I found that Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L  Crafty Power Tape and Dodz worked really well.

Cardstock: Core’dinations ColorCore

Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

Ribbon: May Arts, unknown and salvages from packages

Ink and embossing powder: Clearsnap ColorBox

Embellishments: Dear Lizzy, Studio Calico, unknown

Isn’t this a fantastic way to make a bunch of cards quickly and easily?  Thanks for the great ideas, Kerry!

These turned out super! I have a hard time using my little embellishments, but maybe if I group them together kind of like what you did, I might have better luck!
