Bible Journaling with Marjolaine Walker

Today on our blog we welcome Marjolaine Walker who has some beautiful Bible journaling pages to show you!

Hello creative friends, I’m so pleased to be here today sharing my journey into bible journaling! I first took notice of people colouring in their bibles a little over a year ago. I loved the idea at the time but was not ready to commit to it just yet. I have a habit of jumping into new things and then abandoning them which ends up being a waste of money and time. To be sure that I would be committed to this new adventure, I started doodling in a bible that I already owned, slowly getting braver as I experimented on each page. After a long while I purchased a wide margin bible and dove right in.

There’s a certain style of bible journaling that I absolutely love. It’s where letter stickers and paint collide, all messy on the page. I could spend hours looking at those pages but I found that for me it wasn’t practical. First I found that it costs a lot of money and second, I don’t always have the time to put those kinds of pages together and lastly, the real reason I don’t do it often…it doesn’t come naturally to me and I never like my pages as much as the ones I see on Instagram! (but I’m not comparing of course, we should never do that!!!)

I decided that for me, simple is best. By keeping things uncomplicated, I can commit to a page or two on a regular basis and it doesn’t require a big stretch of time. For most of my pages I start with a stencil, distress ink and a blending tool. In a matter of seconds I have a beautiful background to build upon. Another go-to product that I use often are my Gelatos, they are so fun and easy and add bright pops of colour to my pages!

Something that I learned early on when I was beginning was that no matter how hard I tried, I just never liked my attempts at creative lettering. My solution was to create the art work on Photoshop and then print it on vellum, perfect every time! I simply print, colour and attach it to my page and it’s done without any fuss.

What I love most about bible journaling is that whatever I put in the margin stays at the forefront of my mind throughout the day and longer. Even months later when I see the pages I remember what lessons I was learning when I did those pages. I treasure my time in God’s word and now I get to add creativity to my quiet time.

I hope that I have encouraged you today. For those of you who might be afraid to try because you don’t think you can be as fancy and artistic as others, I want you to know that you don’t have to keep up with anyone. You can create simple pages and use inexpensive products like crayons and it will still be special. Go ahead, give it a try!

Hi there. You are very talented and I love your work! Can you go into a bit more detail about creating a design and printing it out on vellum? How do you put vellum in your printer to print the design? And do you cut the design out and glue the piece of design and vellum onto the margin? I can’t tell from the pictures. Thank you
