Where You Create: Kate Vickers

This week, I’m happy to introduce you to Kate Vickers, who will be joining the Canadian Scrapbooker team as a Guest Designer this year!

I asked Kate to answer these five random questions:

Are you a girly girl?  Not really. I don’t like to wear dresses or skirts, except in the summer. I do like pink and purple, but I definitely don’t love frills or lace and I wear a minimal amount of makeup.

What’s your favourite Easter candy?  My favourite would be chocolate bunnies from Lindt.

Do you like horror movies?  YES!!! My favourite movies are sci-fi/horror. My favourite TV show is The Walking Dead.

How old were you when you went on your first “real” date?  I’m not sure, maybe 14?

If you could go back, what’s the one piece of advice you would give to your 16-year-old you?  Stick to school, horses and art (in that order).  Forget about boys – they don’t matter right now.  Take more math and science courses!  That’s where all the money is, and you will need lots of that when you’re older to support your 3 kids, your horse and your scrapbooking habit.

Kate, my husband is obsessed with The Walking Dead too!  I will hand things over to Kate now, and she can bring you on the tour of her creative space:

I am a wife and mother of 3 small children, ages 8, 5 and 3. I live in Burlington, Ontario. I have scrapbooked seriously for about 7 years now, but I have been interested in arts and crafts since I was old enough to hold a crayon. My scrapbooking style is eclectic. I like to use a lot of 3D elements, machine stitching, stamps and multi-media.

My other passion is horseback riding. I have been riding for over 25 years and owned two of my own horses. I competed in Eventing, Dressage and Hunter/Jumper. My oldest daughter has started riding and loves it as much as I do.

My real job is part-time freelance Web Project Manager, Designer and Developer. I have been lucky to be able to do freelance work for some major Canadian marketing firms.

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m a bit of a slob! My desk is usually covered in paper and scrapbooking supplies. I was surprised to learn that it’s white when I cleaned it for these photos!

The most important tools in my space are my sewing machine, my computer and my Silhouette Cameo. I rarely create anything without them.

I have a large two tiered baskets purchased at Costco to house all the supplies that I use the most frequently. All of my mists are stored on the top level and I have various adhesives, knives, scissors, paper towels and baby wipes on the bottom level. I usually do my detail work on the green cutting mat that lives right next to the basket.

My ribbons are either organized by colour on a rod from Ikea or on a ribbon holder rack on spools that I purchased from Michael’s.

Most of my stamps are stored in empty DVD cases from Stampin’ Up that fit nicely inside of a DVD rack from Ikea. I’m starting to outgrow the rack though, so I may need to buy another one!

My Copic and Spectrum Noir markers are stored in a bin that’s (presumably) out of reach of my feisty 3 year old daughter. She tends to get into stuff and I definitely don’t want alcohol ink markers all over my walls! The bins are from Ikea and hook onto the rack that also houses my ribbon.

Thanks for the tour, Kate – and welcome to the team!  If you’d like to learn more about Kate and to view her projects, please visit her blog, Scrapsation.

Cheers,

Oh, Kate. What I wouldn’t give to have a space like yours in which to craft. I do card making so I use many of the same supplies. Thanks for sharing your space with us!
