Where You Create: Valery Klassen

Welcome to our new series, called Where You Create!  Each Friday, we feature one of our readers’ creative spaces!

This week, our guest blogger is Valery Klassen:

I asked Valery to answer five random questions that I came up with , off the top of my head:

Do you like rollercoasters?  As a kid growing up, I loved roller coasters, but today you couldn’t pay me to take a ride on one.

What are you wearing right now?  Jeans & a comfy sweater.  Nothing but casual dress for me these days!

If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?  I have been fortunate in my life to travel to many places, but one place left on my bucket list would have to be Italy.

Who’s the last person you talked to on a telephone (not mobile)?  That would have to be my daughter.  She calls me almost every day.

Who’s your scrappy idol?  I think that would have to be Tim Holtz.

Now, I’m going to hand things over to Valery:

My name in Valery Klassen and I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and I love to create!  I am married to a super supportive husband with whom I share two great kids.

I have my own business creating custom designed personalized baby blankets.  I have many hobbies but I am passionate about my scrapbooking; I love capturing life’s moments on paper and preserving them for future generations.  My goal is to have fun creating beautiful work while inspiring and encouraging others.  My motto: do something creative every single day!

My addiction to scrapbooking began in 2003 when I wanted to make something special for a friend and saw the layouts posted on the store wall and knew that I just had to give this new hobby a try.

I am very fortunate to be able to have two rooms dedicated to my hobbies and I feel very blessed to be able to scrapbook a couple of hours each day.  My favorite time is when I can spend a quiet Sunday afternoon in my scrapbook room creating to the sound of my favorite tunes.

My inspiration to create comes from my family, although I do find inspiration from a few favorite designers.  Through my blog followers, I have been lucky to correspond with other artists who keep my creative juices flowing.  I am also a follower of many blogs and am inspired daily by other people’s creations.

My favorite pieces in my scrap room are my antique typewriter that I still use and it sits on top of my favorite vintage cabinet that just happens to store all my Tim Holtz dies.

I have a plastic shoe organizer hanging on my door which holds all my punches and because I am a very visual scrapbooking; meaning if it’s not out in plain site, I won’t use it.

I have all my supplies out in the open.  I stack all my paper by theme in clear trays and because I am a lover of all things organized, everything is labeled.  I always keep the latest copy of Canadian Scrapbooker on my shelf for daily inspiration.

I love my scrap room which doubles as my office and is connected to my sewing room and spend 8-10 hours a day in here.  It really is my “happy place”.

Thanks for sharing your space with us, Valery!
